Dear Parents and Guardians:

I would like to introduce myself as the C-Team cheerleading coach.  My name is Lori Killino.  I have coached cheerleading at the C-Team level for many years and was a cheerleader myself.  This is my fifth year coaching for the Olyphant Lions.  I am interested in teaching your children the basic fundamentals of cheerleading, while enhancing self-esteem, technique and sportsmanship at an age-appropriate level.  My assistant coaches are Grace Williams, Lori Pasco and Chrissy Gerrity.

There are some expectations for the team to be successful:

  1. Attend every practice and game.
  2. Wear comfortable clothes such as shorts, T-Shirt and sneakers.
  3. Be on time for practice.
  4. Call or email ahead of time if you cannot make practice or if you are going to be late.
  5. Have your hair pulled back for each practice and game.
  6. Leave your jewelry at home so it doesn’t get lost (earings are acceptable) or can injure someone else during partner stunts.
  7. Remind your child that it is important to follow directions and cooperate with team members.  This year I will be implementing a warning system for not following rules.  The first time will be a reminder, the second time I will ask your child to sit for 10 minutes and the third will result in sitting for 10 minutes along with a parent contact.
  8. Bring a drink or money so you can have a drink during break.  I would encourage you to bring water or Gatorade.  I recommend not eating during practice.  Please encourage your child to dispose of all bottles or garbage at the end of each practice.
  9. It is not necessary that the parent(s) stay for practice, however please be on time when picking them up.
  10. Ask questions if you are confused, and encourage your child to do the same.
  11. I recommend not swimming 1-2 hours prior to practice; this will prevent your child from becoming tired or over heated during practice.
  12. Practice at home!

Over the next couple months we will be focusing on a variety of cheerleading techniques.  Here are some examples of what your child will be learning:

  • Cheers- sideline, hometown and chants
  • Routine/ Dance
  • Jumps
  • Partner stunts and pyramids
  • Team Building
  • Technique instruction

My primary goal for our team is for your child to have fun while learning the basic fundamentals of cheerleading.  I encourage parents to call me with any questions or talk to me before or after practice.  My focus during practice time is the cheerleaders.  I am looking forward to a successful season.

Throughout the summer practices will be held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 5:30-7:30pm.  There may be a practice on Friday if needed.  If there are any changes I will notify you ahead of time.

Thank you,

Lori Killino
